Ever found yourself stuck in the middle of nowhere with no internet, no Wi-Fi, and not even a working hotspot nearby? You need to tell someone where you are, but your phone just won’t cooperate.
But don’t worry, there is a way to share your location even when you’re offline or have lost the internet. All you need is your phone’s GPS and a simple text message. Here’s how to do it on both iPhone and Android.
For iPhone users Even without the internet, your iPhone can still find your location using GPS. Here’s what to do:
- Open the ‘Compass’ app on your iPhone. Step 1
- At the bottom of the screen, you’ll see your latitude and longitude; these are your exact coordinates. Step 2
- Tap and hold on the coordinates to copy them.
- Open your 'Messages' app, choose the person you want to send the location to, and paste the coordinates into a new SMS. Step 3
- Hit Send. Step 4
Tell the other person to copy those numbers and paste them into Google Maps or Apple Maps. Once they do that, tell them to tap on ‘Directions’, and they'll know exactly where you are.
For Android users
Use offline GPS apps
If Google Maps isn't working or installed:
- Try apps like Sygic, Workyard, or GPS Essentials.
- These work without internet and can show you your live coordinates.
- Just copy the numbers and send them via SMS.
Bonus: If you have a GPS device
Some people carry small GPS modules (especially in remote areas). These gadgets show your coordinates directly.
