Prasidh Krishna also sits out of first training day ahead of 2nd Test in Birmingham
Team India's first training session was held in Birmingham as they prepare for the second Test of the five-match series against England. The Indian team arrived in Birmingham on Wednesday, and after a team-bonding activity on Thursday, the players did their training drills on Friday.
Two pacers, Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna, were present at the ground where the net session took place, but they didn't take part in any on-field activities; barring them, the entire squad sweated out in the sunny weather.
Will Jasprit Bumrah sit out of 2nd Test?
The fact that there is only four days of gap between the second and the third Test means that the 31-year-old could be rested for the second match of the series, before returning to the playing XI for the third match at the iconic Lord's stadium.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir had addressed the matter and made it pretty clear that, given Bumrah's workload management issue, he will only play three matches in the ongoing series. England lead 1-0 after their five-wicket win at Headingley.
Limelight on Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh
With Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj expected to retain their place in the team, it remains to be seen who will replace Jasprit in the playing XI, as Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh were seen bowling full-tilt in the nets, and it was business as usual for the duo.
The Indian captain Shubman Gill and vice-captain Rishabh Pant also sweated it out in the nets, reported the Times of India.
What's next for Team India?
The Indian team will continue building up the pace as the second Test nears with each passing day. India's record in Edgbaston is hardly inspiring, with just a draw and 7 losses in 8 Test matches at the venue.
In order to keep their hopes alive of winning a first Test series in England since 2007, the Indian team will need to end their Edgbaston jinx and that too potentially without the leader of their pace attack.
